Teenager missing for three months after murder of parents is found alive

Authorities in northwestern Wisconsin say a 13-year-old girl who went missing in October after her parents were killed has been found alive.

Elizabeth Smart, a child safety activist and former victim of a kidnapping that gained widespread nationwide coverage in 2002, has offered her prayers to Jayme Closs in an Instagram post after the missing Wisconsin teenager was found alive Thursday night.

That woman rushed Jayme to Kristin Kasinskas' home nearby and asked her to call 911, Kasinskas told CNN.

Fitzgerald said investigators believe the girl was "the only target" but they weren't yet able to say how they believe the suspect learned about her.

"We do not any other details at this time as this is a very fluid and active investigation", said Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald of Barron County Sheriff's Department after Closs was found. "The subject planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity from law enforcement and the general public".

Fitzgerald said it appears Patterson targeted Jayme and killed her parents in order to abduct her.

Fitzgerald said the girl approached a woman who was walking her dog - and provided a description of a vehicle in the area, leading to Patterson's arrest. Douglas County Sheriff Thomas Dalbec said Patterson was jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges. Authorities issue an Amber Alert for 13-year-old Jayme Closs, and the search for her begins.

She was due to be reunited with her extended family later Friday.

Douglas County deputies later located a vehicle matching description of the suspect's auto provided by Closs, pulled Patterson over and arrested him.

The finish was incredible", Guardiola said. "It was not our or City's best game because we both made it hard for the other team", he continued.

Kasinskas said she brought the "slender-looking" girl into her living room and sat down with her.

"There was rumors earlier today, and I prayed and prayed, and they come to not be true", Allard told CNN affiliate WCCO reporter Mary McGuire. It's unclear if the teen knew her alleged captor before she went missing.

Sue Allard, Jayme's aunt, told the Star Tribune she could barely express her joy after learning the news on Thursday night.

Authorities are scheduled to attend a press conference at 10 a.m. Friday in Barron. "I've been in the dumpster for three months". I mean, how she got out, we don't know that yet, you know, it wasn't just on her own.

James and Denise Closs were shot dead in their home on Monday, October 15, 2018. The girl said she'd been abducted and had escaped from a house where she had been left alone, Peter Kasinskas told the NPR member station.

Jayme Closs, 13, was missing after her parents were found dead in their home in Barron, Wisconsin, on October 15, 2018.

Investigators received more than 3,500 tips during that time, Fitzgerald said.

She was rescued nine months later with the help of two witnesses who recognised her abductors from an America's Most Wanted episode. As they waited for authorities, Jayme declined food and water, and instead met the family's puppy. Investigators said they believed Jayme was at home during the shooting. I can't wait to get my arms around her.
