Trump cancels Davos trip over partial govt. shutdown

Other senators said they recognized that the only way out of the standoff would be for Trump, Pelosi and Schumer to reach a deal that would be acceptable to them and that could pass the House and Senate and be signed into law.

Trump has started to claim that he never said during his election campaign that Mexico would directly pay for the wall: "Obviously, I never said this, and I never meant they're going to write out a check", the president told reporters at the White House on Thursday.

It is the latest sign that the administration is laying the groundwork for a possible emergency order as negotiations between Trump and congressional Democrats to reopen the partially shuttered government have ground to a halt.

The dispute centers on a high stakes fight between Trump and Democratic lawmakers over wall funding, with the president demanding 5.7 billion dollars and the opposition offering up only 1.6 billion.

Today marks the 21st day of the partial shutdown that started days before Christmas over a standoff between President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats over funding for the President's long-promised border wall. He claimed his lawyers told him the action would withstand legal scrutiny "100 percent".

After several minutes, Spacey got up to go to the bathroom and the 18-year-old left the bar and went home, the complaint states. After the formal charge against him was announced, Spacey released a video in which he seemed to attempt to refute the charges.

The White House has directed the Army Corps of Engineers to comb through its budget in search of money for the wall, including looking at $13.9 billion in unspent disaster relief funds earmarked for areas including hurricane-damaged Puerto Rico, Texas and more than a dozen other states.

He argued that the US can't solve the problem without a "very substantial barrier" along the border, but offered exaggerations about the effectiveness of border walls and current apprehensions of those crossing illegally.

Trump on Thursday gave his strongest public indication yet that he is leaning toward an emergency declaration as he traveled to the Texas border to continue to press his case for the wall. Across the street, a smaller group chanted back: "Build that wall!"

Despite this, however, a source close to the president told The Daily Caller "he doesn't give a damn" broadly about the effects of the shutdown because the wall is an existential delivery both politically and for USA security.

On Capitol Hill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the president of engaging in political games to fire up his most loyal supporters, suggesting that a heated meeting Wednesday with legislators at the White House had been "a setup" so that Trump could walk out of it. He was to leave January 21 to attend the World Economic Forum.
