Apple FaceTime bug allows people to eavesdrop on your iPhone, Mac

Apple is working on a fix to a FaceTime problem that could see people spy on your conversations.

The FaceTime glitch was first noticed by trade publication 9to5Mac, which wrote that the bug, which was "spreading virally over social media", lets you "immediately hear the audio coming from their phone".

The caller can then eavesdrop on the person being called, and in some demonstrations even watch them through the camera app. It's real. You can call someone on FaceTime and listen to their phone's mic if they don't pick up. Good thing the company responded in a timely manner to disable the feature, though.

NY governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement warning people about the bug and urging people to disable the app until Apple fixes the issue.

Major tech leaders like Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian started warning their Twitter followers late Monday to disable FaceTime on their Apple devices in light of a major software bug that Apple has acknowledged.

This bug affects all iOS devices running iOS 12.1 or later.

Trump ally Roger Stone charged with offences including witness tampering
Mr Stone still possessed many of those communications when he gave false testimony about them, prosecutors said in the indictment. Stone said the raid was an "overreach" by Mueller, and was concerned about the impact it had on his wife and his dogs.

The incident is embarrassing for the technology giant as it was discovered on Data Privacy Day in the United States, which Apple chief executive Tim Cook had tweeted about, calling for "vital privacy protections". CNBC reports that a bug allows you to listen from someone else's phone even before they answer your call.

In a statement to Buzzfeed, Apple said it had already identified a fix for the issue and would be rolling out a software update later this week.

A new Group FaceTime bug allows callers to see and hear the person they're calling before they've even answered.

She also uploaded a video on YouTube demonstrating the flaw on January 25, which she sent to Apple multiple times.

New York Governor Cuomo issued a consumer alert warning to residents of New York about this bug.

My family and I are running Apple iOS 12.1.3 on our iPhone XS and iPhone 7 devices. The fix will be issued in a software update later in the week.
