Harris emerges as frontrunner to oust Trump as rivals circle

U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris' slogan for her 2020 presidential campaign is quite a familiar one for Central Floridians: "For the People". Her campaign reported raising $1.5 million from roughly 38,000 donors during the first 24 hours after she announced her campaign on January 21. But her prime-time town hall brought her into the living rooms of many more Americans. She was animated as she answered questions about gun violence, health care, climate change and other issues.

But Democrats, honing in on President Trump's personal unpopolarity, apparently mistake the public rejection of Trump's personal foibles for public warmth toward full-scale Leftism.

"I'm running for president because I love my country", Harris, 54, told voters Sunday. She officially announced her presidential bid on Sunday in her birthplace of Oakland, California, where thousands showed up hoping to catch a glimpse of her in the surrounding streets. Six in 10 Americans now say the country is on the "wrong track". "Of the people. For all the people".

If she were to be elected, her victory would be historic: Ms Harris would be the first woman, first female African-American, and first person of Asian descent to become American president.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren of MA and Kirsten Gillibrand of NY have announced exploratory committees. During her conversation with CNN's Jake Tapper, a man in the audience asked what she thinks of the notion that Democrats would have a better chance of winning the 2020 election with a male candidate.

"In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up re-electing the president", said Bloomberg, who himself considered an independent run three years ago but ultimately backed off.

U.S. Senator Kamala Harris waves to supporters during her presidential campaign launch rally in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in Oakland, California, on January 27.

Doctors and hospitals may face pay cuts, according to a 2017 analysis from The New York Times, since the government-sponsored program typically pays less for services than private companies. Day last week, Ms. Harris had declared that she had raised $1.5 million within the first 24 hours.

"I will also say to you that I have seen fathers bring their sons up to me and say, 'she is the first, ' in a way that is to also speak to those sons about the fact they should not ever be burdened by what has been and they should see what can be", Harris said. She reportedly drew more than 20,000 people to the event. "I think that's really the most important takeaway, which is that with each barrier we break, it is saying to all of us, don't be burdened by what has been". We know it ended a little short for him.

Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Bernie Sanders of Vermont may also run.
