Mavericks agree to trade for Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis

There's officially breaking news coming out of the National Basketball Association, as the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks have agreed to a blockbuster trade that includes a host of all-star talent.

While the decision to trade Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks surprised many people, there's a method to the madness for the New York Knicks. If Porzingis comes back at 100 percent - even if it's next season - they could be a team to keep an eye on in the vaunted Western Conference for years to come.

On paper, the trade looks like an absolute win for the Mavericks.

The deal calls for the Mavs to receive Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Porzingis, with Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr. and DeAndre Jordan heading to NY.

The other first-round pick NY receives will be top-10 protected in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Porzingis, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, averaged 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.0 blocks in 186 games with the Knicks.

Harris emerges as frontrunner to oust Trump as rivals circle
Kamala Harris' slogan for her 2020 presidential campaign is quite a familiar one for Central Floridians: "For the People". Cory Booker of New Jersey, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Bernie Sanders of Vermont may also run.

The Mavericks also receive Tim Hardaway Jr. The Knicks famously passed on him in the 2017 NBA Draft for Frank Ntilikina. Jordan and Matthews are expiring contracts. Wojnarowski contested that report.

Porzingis hasn't played in the 2018-19 season as he continues to recover from an ACL injury he suffered a year ago. He was enjoying an All-Star season when he got hurt past year, averaging a career-high 22.7 points per game.

They were never able to come a superpower after signing Stoudemire in 2010, and giving up a lot in the following trade deadline for Carmelo Anthony. But amid the epic (and deserved) roasting of the Knicks, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported a potential curveball to the proceedings.

As of Thursday, they sported the league's worst record (10-40). But that apparently was a strategy Porzingis was not on board with.

Kristaps Porzingis #6 of the New York Knicks is introduced prior to the game against the LA Clippers on November 20, 2017 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
