European Union countries part of 'a gringo plot' against Venezuela, Maduro claims

Boosted by the backing of 19 European Union countries, Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaido is ploughing on with his bid to bring humanitarian aid into the country despite President Nicolas Maduro's vow to block it.

Mr Maduro has said the aid will be turned away by his the army, while Mr Guaido has called on the troops to allow it in to help struggling citizens.

"This is a process led by the people of Venezuela in their very fearless quest to return their country themselves to democracy in accordance with their own constitution", she said.

"Nicolás Maduro, who was elected in a vote voted illegitimate by the European Union, the US, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and other Latin American countries in 2018, has already announced that he will not comply with the call to organize new and transparent presidential elections", the ministry said.
