Albert Finney, Daddy Warbucks in 'Annie', has died at age 82

The film helped introduce Finney to a new generation of moviegoers, and the chemistry between the aging lawyer and his young, aggressive assistant earned him yet another Oscar nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actor.

Five-time Oscar nominee Finney played James Bond's gruff gamekeeper Kincade in Skyfall. The 1990s gave him an opportunity to work with the Coen Brothers in Miller's Crossing, and he also expanded into television with roles in miniseries titles like Karaoke, Cold Lazarus and Nostromo.

British film-maker Edgar Wright marked his passing by quoting one of his famous lines from Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.

The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) graduate continued working on the stage despite his film success, earning Tony nominations on Broadway for Luther and A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

But stardom came to Finney anyway in "Tom Jones" where he won over audiences worldwide with his good-natured, amusing and sensual portrayal of an 18th-century English rogue.

It was nominated for ten Oscars - including a Best Actor nod for Finney as the titular Tom, who swashed buckles and bared skin up and down the highways and byways of 18th century England, pausing for a memorable meal in an inn with a lustful older lady.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed his death, he sad: "Albert Finney, aged 82, passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side".

Moscow: No Evidence of INF Violations as US Suspends Obligations Under Treaty
It was the first treaty to ban an entire class of weapons: ground-launched cruise missiles with a range between 500 and 500km. The dispute is aggravating the worst U.S. -Russia frictions since the Cold War ended in 1991.

"I was the first man to be seen sleeping with another man's wife in an English film", said Finney of his role as Arthur, a hard-living factor worker juggling affairs with two women while living at home.

"I've always been very lazy as well as being lucky, and now I'm even lazier", Finney said.

Finney appeared and sang in "Scrooge" (1970) and "Annie" (1982), in which he played tycoon Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks.

Finney also famously turned down a CBE from the Queen in 1980 and a knighthood in 2000.

He got back-to-back nominations in 1984 and 1985 for The Dresser and Under the Volcano but never attended the ceremony itself, calling it "a waste of time".

The 1960s also saw Finney star in Night Must Fall and Two for the Road with Audrey Hepburn.

Funeral arrangements for Finney have not been released yet.
