Rouhani: Iran to continue expanding military might, missile program

One banner read: "Much to the dismay of America, the revolution has reached its 40th year".

"Israel acts "constantly" to prevent Iran and its proxies from entrenching themselves on Israel's northern border and in the region", Netanyahu said.

Iran was determined to expand its military power and ballistic missile program despite mounting pressure from hostile countries to curb Iran's defensive work, state TV reported Rouhani as saying.

"We do not and we will not ask permission for producing any type of missiles from anybody", Rouhani said in his speech Monday, though he stressed that Iran would "continue constructive engagement" with the worldwide community.

Following reports of a second failed space launch by Iran in less than a month, the U.S. State Department last week called for "tougher global restrictions to deter Iran's missile program".

"Our missiles can travel very far, and confront any enemy, including the Iranian proxies in our region", he said from the base in Haifa, a day after an top Iranian commander threatened to raze the city if the USA attacked the Islamic Republic.

The crowd of demonstrators in the rallies paid tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, under whose leadership the revolutionary movements triumphed over the despotic regime of Pahlavi on February 11, 1979.

Prices of basic foodstuffs, particularly meat, have soared since President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 nuclear deal previous year and reimposed economic sanctions.

Venezuela's Guaido: 'We will do what is necessary'
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will discuss the issue of Venezuela with European Union leaders during his upcoming trip to Europe. Opposition leader Juan Guaido vowed to use the bridge to deliver the aid being pledged by Trump and Canada.

Another Iranian official warned that his country would destroy cities in Israel if the United States attacked Iran.

"The presence of people today on the streets all over Islamic Iran. means that the enemy will never reach its evil objectives", a defiant President Hassan Rouhani told those thronging Tehran's Azadi (Freedom) Square, decrying a "conspiracy" involving Washington.

The large turnout in state-sponsored rallies, in which USA and Israeli flags were burned, came as Iranians face mounting economic hardships many blame on the country's clerical leaders.

Rouhani also promised the crowds that Iran would overcome the economic hardship amid the country's spiraling economy and the newly imposed USA sanctions.

Iranian political and military officials have also attended the rallies along with other people to rejoice at the auspicious ceremony. He said, "The United States does not have the courage to shoot a single bullet at us".

"I do not ignore the threats of the Iranian regime but neither am I intimidated by them", Netanyahu said in a statement and video issued by his office as Iran celebrated the 40th anniversary of its revolution.

"If this regime makes the terrible mistake of trying to destroy Tel Aviv and Haifa, it will not succeed", he said. "They would do well to take that into account". -Gen. Hossein Salami, deputy head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
