Senate to Vote on New Green Deal

Senate to Vote on New Green Deal

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he plans to put the Democrats' Green New Deal to a vote so "everyone can go on record and see how they feel about" the measures created to fight climate change. The ambitious proposal has been spearheaded by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from NY. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, though technically an independent, has also said that he might run for president in 2020.

"I would assume we're going to set up a situation where the FAA can tell individual citizens which of their air travel is worthy and important and what isn't", Cheney replied.

As soon as the ridiculousness of the bill was pointed out, Ocasio-Cortez immediately had the bill yanked off of her website and republished it, accusing Republicans of spreading fake information about her legislation.

Democratic Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.) - who are running for president in 2020 - have all endorsed a resolution in support of the Green New Deal introduced by Sen.

It also calls for upgrading all existing buildings in the United States to be energy-efficient. She put ridiculous aspects in the bill and then named it the Green New Deal, an obvious play on FDR's New Deal policies. However, it's received far less support and more pause from moderate Democrats while receiving criticism from Republicans.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY has met with Amy McGrath, the Democratic nominee in last year's race for Kentucky's 6th District U.S. House seat. But Trump's comments referred to a fact sheet of "Frequently Asked Questions" distributed by Ocasio-Cortez's office prior to a news conference last week.

"Along with abolishing farting cows, beefing up high-speed rail so that airplanes can be banned is a key element in the proposal, " the National Republican Congressional Committee said Tuesday.

McConnell and the GOP "are terrified of this winning vision of a just and prosperous future, " he said, adding that McConnell "thinks he can end all debate on the Green New Deal now and stop this freight train of momentum".

McConnell has previously said he would not bring to the Senate floor "any proposal that does not have a real chance of passing this chamber and getting a presidential signature".

Schumer is the latest Democrat to criticize Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for calling a vote on the plan that many in the party have already rallied behind. "This, perhaps counterintuitively, makes an up-or-down vote extraordinarily convenient for activists supporting the Green New Deal-from groups like the Sunrise Movement, Indivisible, and the Sierra Club-who will be able to put pressure on those who reject the resolution in the months ahead".

"It would shut down American energy, which I don't think the people in Texas are going to be happy with", Trump said.
