Pakistan calls back High Commissioner from India for consultations

In the wake of the dastardly Pulwama terror attack, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla has said that India will not play against Pakistan in any bilateral series unless the country stops its state "sponsored terrorism".

India on Friday announced the withdrawal of the Most Favoured Nation status for Pakistan and hiked the customs duty by 200 per cent on goods originating from Pakistan with immediate effect on Saturday.

Indian troops suffered new losses on Monday in a fierce battle with Kashmir militants that left at least seven dead just days after a suicide bomber killed 41 paramilitaries in the troubled territory, officials said.

JeM has claimed responsibility for the attack.

"Without solid evidence, India has long accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorist attacks by JeM and other militant groups and China of providing uncritical support for Pakistan", the article stated.

The alleged mastermind of the 14 February IED suicide attack on a CRPF convoy by the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Abdul Rashid Ghazi aka Kamran trained the attacker, Adil Ahmed Dar and was also responsible for many other attacks on security forces in recent times.

A Major and three soldiers besides a civilian were also killed in the fighting which erupted overnight Sunday barely 10 km from the spot where the suicide bombing took place on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The gunfight comes four days after a suicide bomber carried out a vehicle bomb blast targeting paramilitary convoy in the district, killing at least 40 troopers.

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Pulwama and police have asked people to stay indoors.

The Pakistan Army has been put on "high operational alert" on the border with India, as the latter is feared to retaliate to the fatal terror strike in Pulwama. They both claim it in full but rule it in part.

India has withdrawn trade privileges offered to Pakistan and has warned of further action.

Kashmir has always been a hot point between the two countries with India accusing Pakistan of supporting militants in the region.

The Confederation of All India Traders called for a nationwide strike to protest against the attack, and footage from Reuters partner ANI showed shuttered shops in several states on Monday.

As the bodies of the paramilitary policemen who died in the attack were returned to families across India this weekend, passionate crowds waving Indian flags gathered in the streets to honour the victims and shouted demands for revenge.
