Three MPs resign from UK Conservatives to join breakaway Independent Group

Speaking to BBC Radio 4 Today Programme Ryan said, "We never had this problem in the party before he was the leader".

Mr Watson told the caller, who said he had quit Labour when Mr Corbyn took over: "You may not like Jeremy as leader, but if you genuinely believe in a fairer society and you want to fight racism, come back into the party and fight with me".

Three Conservative MPs quit the party on Wednesday, accusing United Kingdom ministers of letting the "hard-line anti-EU awkward squad" take over the party.

As she prepared to shuttle to Brussels for another round of Brexit talks, May said she was "saddened" by their decision to leave the party.

The biggest split in British politics in almost four decades showed up divisions in both Labour and the ruling Conservatives that have been stretched to breaking point since the Brexit referendum in 2016.

Ms Ryan, who has represented Enfield North since 1997 with a break from 2010-15 and served as a minister in Tony Blair's government, made clear she is hoping for further defections.

Mr Benyon said that Brexit had been dominating affairs and preventing other important issues, such as tackling climate change and the NHS, from being debated.

Joan Ryan, a Labour member of parliament, has become the eighth lawmaker to resign from Britain's main opposition party. It's what the public expect and they are rightly frustrated when politicians put their party ahead of the national interest.

Ummuna and six other Labour MPs resigned from the party on Monday, citing antisemitism, bullying and intimidation.

Pak confers highest civilian award Nishan-e-Pakistan on Saudi Crown Prince
Earlier, the Saudi prince also met a joint parliamentary delegation of all parties and discussed various matters of interest. Prince Salman arrived in Pakistan on Sunday amid heightened security and arrangements in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

On Tuesday, former Conservative Prime Minister Sir John Major said the party was being "manipulated" by Brexit "zealots" and the "mainstream majority" of MPs must reassert itself to stop a damaging European Union exit.

While this new Independent Group on its own will not be able to stop Brexit, analysts say, it may play an outsize role in stopping a so-called "no-deal Brexit", under which Britain would crash out of the continental trading bloc without any transition period or trade deal.

The new Independent Group member MPs. The Conservative Party is a broad church and it's right and proper that if the Conservative Party wants to remain the Party of Government this remains the case.

Heidi Allen, Anna Soubry and Sarah Wollaston arrive for a press conference at Westminster to announce their resignation from the Conservative Party.

The move is a blow to British Prime Minister Theresa May's attempts to unite her party around her Brexit plans.

One person wrote: "I know many decent people in the Labour party but the party they joined prior to 2015 is now a lost cause, taken over by nasty extremists".

But leading rebel MP Chris Leslie said the idea that the Independents were taking votes from Labour was wrong.

A lifelong critic of the European Union, Corbyn has resisted pressure to support a second referendum on Brexit, to the fury of many of his lawmakers and activists.

The Luton South MP told HuffPost UK's Commons People podcast: "We need a general election like a hole in the head right now, we're 900 hours to Brexit and we're going to crash out without a deal unless something replaces that".
