Space Jam 2, starring LeBron James, finally has a release date!

The July 16 release date may be a nod to the uniform number shared by LeBron, who will star in the sequel, and Michael Jordan, who starred in the original 1996 film.

It's been over 20 years since the first Space Jam, and now the long awaited sequel has a release day. And in two years, LeBron James will find himself in a similar situation next to Bugs.

"Space Jam 2" won't be out for several years, but we do now have an official release date.

The live-action/animated sports comedy, featuring National Basketball Association goliath Lebron James, will bounce into cinemas on July 16, 2021 - nearly 25 years after Michael Jordan starred in the original. Larry Bird and Charles Barkley had roles in the original "Space Jam", and fans are now guessing which current players might join James in the sequel.

We might have our first look at Lebron James in Space Jam 2. The latter likely won't end up making its planned premiere, as all Marvel movies now in development at 20th Century Fox are on hold until the merger between Fox and The Walt Disney Company goes through, at which point Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will take over the franchise and do with the X-Men movies (and all the characters Disney is buying from Fox) what he pleases.

The Los Angeles Lakers star was praised for his performance on Nance's Trainwreck (2015)alongside Amy Schumer and Bill hader. The first Space Jam involved the Looney Tunes needing Michael Jordan to take on a team of aliens who super-sized themselves with the stolen talent of real professional National Basketball Association players to become the Monstars. "I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams", he told The Hollywood Reporter in September 2018.
