Regina King wins supporting actress Oscar for 'Beale Street'

The actress, who was the first announced victor of the night, was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk.

King won for her highly emotive performance in Jenkins' James Baldwin adaptation, which shines a glaring spotlight on the issue of mass incarceration in the black community.

"We had the Oscars on during dinner and when Chris Evans helped Regina King up the steps, my husband and I both agreed we'd step aside to let the other marry Chris", another user posted. "She won because she gave an incredible performance and especially then, the Academy was not as reflective as it is now".

As King arrived at the Academy Awards ceremony, she told Yahoo Entertainment that she hadn't had a film role in 10 years when the project came her way, but that she had seen something special about it. Barry Jenkins's movie is based on the late James Baldwin's 1974 book of the same name. "We're still trying to get more reflected, we're still trying to get there".

Khloe Kardashian 'splits' from Tristan after he 'cheats' with Kylie's best friend
Kylie has not yet commented on the issue but TUKO.co.ke understands she is conflicted and trying to figure things out. And despite the scandal, the 34-year-old seemed in a good mood as she arrived at Kanye West's office in Calabasas.

"This will be her first Oscar if she wins and I know she's going to win", said Cain in an interview.

"We just pulled on being women", she said. She followed it up with even more compliments in a reply, saying, "And you look handsome AND well groomed!"

Curtis tweeted out her support of Evans, praising him for his gentlemanly ways.

She added: "That's the attractive thing about the Me Too movement, and the Me Too movement has, I think, gone even beyond that with creating opportunities for women to find their voice, even beyond just being violated sexually, but being marginalized, being violated, when you have put in the work to be at the table and being denied a seat at the table".
