Daylight Saving Time To Return Early Sunday Morning

"As we get ready to change our clocks and lose one hour of sleep on Sunday, we must be tired of the negative health effects of this practice", Chu said in a statement Friday.

Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 3 a.m. on Sunday.

This weekend, we will again be forced to comply with an archaic tradition, one that offers no benefits; in fact, "springing forward and falling back" comes with many consequences, including significant cost. Clocks will move back an hour on the first Sunday in November.

The National Weather Service advises to not change your schedule, have a nighttime routine, avoid any long naps, and to make sure to get some natural sunlight (if you can) as it helps regulate your body's internal clock. On average, Americans lose 40 minutes of sleep when we set the clocks ahead in the spring.

Well folks, it's that time of year again.

Although it's a century-old idea, the policy wasn't introduced until Germany implemented it during World War I, thinking more daylight hours might help conserve energy. According to Marketplace, the farming lobby was so heavily against the concept, they kept peacetime daylight saving law from being implemented in the US until 1966.

U.S. singer R Kelly released from prison
The news came three days after a judge ordered Kelly jailed until he paid the total amount he owed by that date. The singer was taken into custody during a hearing over the child support on Wednesday.

It doesn't feel much like spring, but it's time to "spring ahead" to "Daylight Saving Time". The U.S. followed suit during World Wars I and II.

Today, about 70 countries observe daylight saving time.

However, it's hard to say whether daylight saving translates into energy savings, according to several studies, including a 2007 Department of Energy study and a 1997 study on a residential home in Kansas, Live Science previously reported.

Efforts to kill off daylight saving time are almost as old as the time shift itself, and even today, some are trying to get it repealed. A slim majority of participants (56 per cent) said they'd prefer if the province stopped the time change.

States and territories are allowed to individually opt out of observing Daylight Saving Time.

Daylight saving time is fast approaching, which means it's nearly time to set your clocks an hour ahead on Sunday morning and prepare for longer days.
