Trump defends 'Tim Apple' comment, says he was saving time

President Donald Trump is blaming the "fake news" for blowing up the fact that he slipped up recently in a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook. Donald Trump in particular seems to spend a large chunk of his waking days refuting allegations made against him. Cook even changed his name on Twitter to reflect his new presidential nickname.

Trump also scolded the media for alerting people to the faux pas.

"At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words", Trump tweeted on Monday.

But now Trump is arguing that the whole incident is "fake news", according to Axios reporter Jonathan Swan. By adding a hyphen between Tim and Apple, the transcript makes it appear as though the president was calling Cook by his first name and then stating the name of the company he works for.

Mr Trump said his apparent slip-up at a White House roundtable with business leaders last Wednesday (March 6) had been on objective. Trump praised the CEO for his "big investment" in the US, but when it came time to thank Cook by name, not even a conspicuously placed name tag could help.

"We have so many companies coming".

"I used to say, 'Tim, you got to start doing it over here.' And you really have". And you really have. The president introduced defense company Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson as "Marillyn Lockheed" at a conference past year.
