Omar Criticizes Pelosi for Condemning BDS at AIPAC

The Muslim lawmaker has been embroiled in controversy after criticizing USA support of Israel on several occasions.

"It's not about the Benjamins", Netanyahu said, responding to a February tweet by Omar purporting that USA politicians' support for Israel was linked to campaign contributions.

US congresswoman Ilhan Omar criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, saying the focus of his speech at this year's American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in Washington, D.C. was on her.

"As a Democrat, I'm proud to belong to the party of Truman, the first American president to recognize the state of Israel", Menendez said. Pelosi's attempt to be oblique was overshadowed, however, by Benjamin Netanyahu, who appeared via video after having to return home early to Israel to deal with rocket attacks from Hamas.

Omar criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a series of tweets on Tuesday. The reason that the people of America support Israel is not because they want our money, it's because they share our values.

Anti-Semitism condemned by House in response to Omar comments.

Netanyahu cut short a visit to the USA and rushed back to Israel on Tuesday to deal with the military response to Palestinian militants firing rockets at Israel this week.

"We must also be vigilant against bigoted or risky ideologies masquerading as policy, and that includes BDS", she argued.

Democrats have touted their commitment to Israel this week against a backdrop of anti-Semitic controversies involving Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and progressives calling for presidential candidates to boycott the AIPAC conference.

"I simply declare that to be anti-Semitic is to be anti-American", she added to applause. It's part of our history ... and we shall never, ever give it up.

Other Democratic leaders speaking at the AIPAC also pushed back against anti-Semitic voices in their party, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

"I -like so many others-have not criticized AIPAC because of its membership or the country it advocates for".

In another tweet, Omar said: "White supremacist violence is on the rise globally".

That's all well and good, but if so, why didn't House Democrats make that the issue with their resolution?

"When you accuse Jews of funding caravans of asylum seekers at our southern border or fail to call out and condemn the rise of white supremacy at home or overseas, you are fanning those flames", Menendez said "There is simply no excuse for unsafe vitriol from any politicians that threatens both the safety of Jewish Americans and Israel's core existence".
