Anti-stall system active before Ethiopian 737 MAX crash

The US plane maker said it couldn't comment as the investigation is still underway.

"[Boeing officials] have to discuss the matter internally", said Garuda Indonesia president director Ari Askhara in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday, as reported by Antara.

The amount and quality of training that Boeing and airlines provided to 737 MAX pilots is one of the issues under scrutiny as investigators around the world try to determine the causes of the two 737 MAX crashes within five months.

It too went down minutes after take off from the Jakarta Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) and the aircraft involved was a brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8, delivered to the airline two months before.

He vowed that Garuda Indonesia did not plan to shift its order to another aircraft maker but ask Boeing to offer the airline other types of aircraft.

In the wake of the tragedy, aviation authorities and carriers around the world, including in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, France, Germany, South Africa, the European Union, China and Russian Federation, have either grounded all 737 MAX 8 series aircraft or closed their airspace to them.

Lawyers representing Jackson Musoni from Rwanda filed a suit in a federal court in Chicago. A preliminary report from Ethiopian authorities is expected within days.

Both crashes killed a combined 346 people and are being investigated by teams of global experts led by the countries where the flights originated. Investigators in the Lion Air case highlighted how pilots battled to keep the plane pointing up as the system automatically forced the nose down.

While investigators found that sensors had given wrong information about the angle of the plane before the Lion Air crash, neither the Indonesian or Ethiopian planes displayed warnings - - a safety feature sold as an optional extra. He said it was vital European authorities also got involved in the investigation.

The Federal Aviation Administration reviewed the US company's analysis and agreed.

American Airlines' chief Boeing 737 pilot Roddy Guthrie told ABC News the proposed changes amount to "significant enhancements".

Boeing revealed updates to a scrutinized automated safety system in the new model on Wednesday while defending the original design, saying the software updates would make the design "more robust".

The European Aviation and Space Agency certified the plane as safe partly because it said additional training would "clearly explain" to pilots the "unusual" situations in which they would need to manipulate a rarely used manual wheel to control, or "trim", the plane's angle.
