Sales of the Nintendo Switch are no longer meeting Nintendo's predictions, suggesting that the success of the console will be short-lived.

The report comes to us from Bloomberg who spoke to two people familiar with Nintendo's plans, both of whom not only corroborate the existence of the console, but claim that it's coming soon. Nintendo sold 49.1 million SNES units following its launch in 1990.

The last time we left the Nintendo Switch, it was floating in the orbit of the Nintendo 64's 32.93 million lifetime sales: now, it has officially surpassed them thanks to a new financial report from Nintendo last night. Annual sales rose 14% to 1.2 trillion yen ($10.7 billion).

Netanyahu says he'll name Golan Heights town after Trump
Indeed, last month Trump called on the U.S.to formally recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights after 55 years. An estimated 20,000 Israelis live in Golan Heights settlements, which most of the global community considers illegal.

Switch sales for the fiscal year ending ending March 31, 2019 are now sitting at 16.95 million units, falling short of the projected 17 million projected unit sales, but up 12.7% year-on-year. Thankfully software sales for the year seem to paint a prettier picture, as there 23 recorded million-sellers, and the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continued to perform well despite age, pushing 7.47 million units in the 12 month period.

The industry is facing a shake-up with established console gaming companies like Nintendo and Sony Corp exposed to competition from new entrants like Alphabet Inc's Google offering browser-based games streaming services.

A next-gen Switch isn't in development, new sources close to the matter told Bloomberg.

All that said, Furukawa's comments aren't a surprise.
